Powerful nor'easter batters much of the East Coast

Storm seems to have exposed segments of the Warren Sawyer, a wooden vessel that ran aground in 1884 The nor’easter storm that pummeled New England over the weekend looks to have exposed large segments of a 19th-century schooner shipwrecked in the so-called graveyard of the Atlantic.

The Warren Sawyer ran aground on Dec. 22, 1884, while carrying 1,115 bales of cotton and 28 tons of scrap iron from New Orleans to Boston.

The identity of the ship is still being investigated, but it appears to be a vessel that ran aground in the 1880s.

Coastal flooding remains a threat along the eastern seaboard after a powerful nor'easter hit over the weekend. People in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions are still dealing with the strong, slow-moving storm that battered those areas.
