Senate rejects resolution calling to end the Iran war, as most Republicans stick with Trump

Even as some swing-state Republican US Senate candidates are suddenly calling for an end to President Donald Trump's unpopular and illegal war with Iran, the vast majority of elected GOP senators are voting to keep the conflict going.

The vote on a war powers resolution introduced by Democrats came at a moment when some Republicans have begun to distance themselves from President Trump over the ongoing conflict.

Centrist Sen. John Fetterman, an ardent supporter of Israel, was the only Democrat to vote against it.

Senate Republicans united Thursday to vote down a Democratic resolution to end the war in Iran, delivering a strong show of solidarity with the president ahead of the midterm elections.
